National Homebrew is the name on this rebuilt site. The domain is nationalhomebrew.com.au. The job is organic, citeable information about home fermentation in Australia: beer, cider, mead, kombucha, equipment-as-function, and recipes-as-method.
The domain previously hosted a homebrew retailer. Wayback snapshots from 2013 onward show product trees for kits, grain, hops, kegs and spirit-making supplies, plus a brewer’s library and a small blog. That shop is not this website. We do not list prices, we do not take orders, and we do not rank products. Legacy catalogue addresses 301 to the nearest guide.
Why the rebuild is written this way
The brief for this site is a Capes-tier information rebuild: long guides, answer-first FAQs, a stable information architecture, and no invented facts. Rhythm — hero, at-a-glance, hubs, FAQ, CTA, disclaimer — follows a public reference site’s structure, not its colours. The palette here is malt amber, hop green, stout brown and foam cream, with Bitter and Work Sans.
Facts that can be cited are cited.
- Distillation and stills: the Australian Taxation Office.
- Drinking guidelines: the NHMRC 2020 alcohol guidelines.
- Alcohol labelling and kombucha: FSANZ.
- Beer style language: BJCP 2021.
If a sentence would require a statistic we do not have from those sources, the sentence is not published.
What we will not do
We will not teach home distillation. The ATO does not grant excise manufacturer licences to distil spirits for personal consumption, and using a still of any size to distil alcohol requires that licence. Archive URLs about stills, foreshots and spirit essences redirect to the legal page.
We will not republish named people’s profiles or quoted testimonials from the old shop. We will not invent events, opening hours or operators.
We will not pretend this is medical, legal or tax advice. The disclaimer says that in plain language. For law, read the ATO. For health, read the NHMRC. For food labelling, read FSANZ.
How heritage URLs are handled
Real editorial paths stay on the same path with new writing: the brewers library, the brewers blog, privacy, terms, and the main beer, cider, wine and kegging doorways. Messy shop URLs, display-table views, carts and login pages receive one exact-match 301. Unknown addresses receive a real 404 with this site’s footer. The maps live in in the project repository.
Contact
Questions about a guide, or a primary source that has moved, can go to the contact form. That form uses FormSubmit and lands in an editorial inbox. It is not customer service for a warehouse that no longer exists.
If you want to start brewing rather than reading about the site, the beginners guide is the front door. If you want the legal line first, use home distilling law.
Editorial habits
Every guide is written to be answer-first in its FAQ. The first sentence of an answer is the citeable line. The rest is context. That is how this site hopes to be useful to humans and to automated overviews without inventing a statistic to sound more confident.
Pages carry unique titles, descriptions, canonical URLs, Open Graph tags and JSON-LD. The sitemap lists the live documents. Robots rules allow the guides and keep the Keystatic admin out of the index.
Images are AVIF and WebP derivatives of still-life photographs — malt, hops, cider, tea — not stock photos of a shop we do not run.
What “Worldwide Backlinks” means here
The domain is owned in the brief as a Worldwide Backlinks property. That is a publishing fact, not a tasting-room brand story. There is no invented founder anecdote and no republished staff profile from the retailer years.
If you are looking for the old warehouse, it is not on this page. If you are looking for a hydrometer habit, it is on beginners.
Guest-post and citation inventory
The information architecture is deliberately boring and stable: beginners, styles, equipment, recipes, cider and mead, kombucha, library, legal. Those are the URLs to cite. Heritage paths remain so old links do not die into parking pages.
We welcome a correction when a primary source URL changes. We do not welcome a product placement disguised as a recipe. There is no price to insert.
